Magical realism

Maeve Maddox is a witch living within the hidden community of the Corpus Dei, where every spell exacts a steep price. Her gift for reading minds has fractured her mental health, leaving her struggling with bipolar disorder.

When she discovers Matias—a dangerously charming spy from the Witches and Warlocks Division of the U.S. Army—ensnared by the Corpus Dei’s spells, she can’t bring herself to turn him in. Instead, she alters his memories to make him believe he wants to join the Corpus Dei. In doing so, Maeve finds herself repeating the same patterns of emotional abuse that shaped her own childhood.
